This Navarathri: Fast on Non Violence-against Yourself and Others

Navarathri is Hindu celebration of the Universal Cosmic Mother, the Divine Feminine Consciousness.

Oxymoronishly, On one hand we celebrate the supreme feminine consciousness, and in parallel, violence against women has become and everyday affair.

The increased participation of women in politics, industrial and social responsibilities has seemingly increased the violence on women.

Why is there an seemingly increased hatred for women ? Child rape

Murder

Acid throwing.

These are not acts that is part of a civilized society.

What is causing this?

Why is it happening? How can we stop these mindless violent acts?

It starts with seemingly harmless, Gender biased jokes.

And soon spirals out of control.

In today’s world|| definition of beauty is defined by beauty products , fashion shows,fashionistas, beauty pageants, beauty queens and judges of beauty contests and of course media.


We are today living on a double edged sword.

One side :

In a world where women are progressively being recognized for Their immense contributions to all facets of life.

The Dark side :

Rape, sexual assault and violence against women has become a painful part of everyday life.

Body shaming has become painfully common place today.

We either too fat or too thin.


Or better looking arms or legs or Are you constantly checking in the mirror you shape, your size , Your blemishes

Are you feeling that U have to be apologize to the world about how you look ?


The definition of beauty is now defined by products , fashion shows,fashionistas, beauty pageants, beauty queens and judges of a beauty show.


Body shaming has become painfully common place today.


We r too fat or too thin,


Or better looking arms or legs or eyes could be larger, or smaller, nose could be more sharp or its too sharp. Self assessment is vastly different from self critique


Now a days, we are so self obsessed with the way we look ..

We watch actors and celebreities who seem “ perfect.”


The idea that a woman has to be have perfect physical attributes is sold to us, everywhere we turn to: from sports , where cheerleaders are an integral landscape of the game, to advertisements, movies, politics, every where woman are predominantly in the forefront.


Breaking down our feminist identities to the the gross and crass level of our physical attributes if common place fashion trended by movies, where Eve teasing a woman for a physical attributes is expected to be taken ‘ light heartedly.”

This Navrathri, lets redefine feminism and womanhood.

The Navrathri series is my humble attempt to trigger and redifine feminism and womanhood. My waist, my eyes, my figure is mine own and not answerable to any one else outside of myself.

Lets make this world a safer place for our girls, our daughters, our sisters. 


Self assessment is vastly different from self critique

We women have become self obsessed bordering on obsessive compulsive disorder, with our looks.

We aim to emulate celebrities who seem to be “ body perfect.”

The idea that a woman has to be have perfect physical attributes is sold to us, everywhere we turn to: from sports , where cheerleaders are an integral landscape of the game, to advertisements, movies, politics, every where woman are predominantly in the forefront- forefront for abuse and law fare.

Be it Nira Radia or Rhea Chakraborthy, women are paraded and attacked mercilessly for TRPs.

The Double edged sword will one day turn towards our own daughters, sisters, mothers and friends.

All of us women, should break this merciless attack against our own.

All of us women are the torchbearers for a better tomorrow for our girls, sisters, daughters and feminine friends


Breaking down our core identity to the the gross and crass level of our physical attributes has become common place fashion, trended by commercial media.


Eve teasing a woman for a physical attributes is expected to be taken, light heartedly, -an artistic piece of comedy to laugh at.
